fifth edition 2025
call for application

The ISUE (Institute of Human and Existential Sciences), collaborating with the University of Cologne (Germany) and with the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, establishes the fifth edition of the award dedicated to the memory of Federico Tonielli. It will award a young Italian PhD student (under 35 years old), currently stud- ying for a PhD in an Italian or European university in one of the following fields: Physics, Mathematics, History or Philosophy of Physics or other Sciences. The award consists of a contribution of 1500 euros to expenses for confer- ence/congress participations and/or course attendance (including fees, living and travel expenses), or article processing charges for publication. This award is set up simultaneously with another one that the University of Cologne, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, will assign to a young PhD researcher at the University of Cologne. The candidates should submit a brief description of the PhD work (in English) as well as Curriculum Vitae and a brief letter of recommendation by the PhD tutor. The call is also open to those who participated in previous editions without winning and who still have their research underway. Applications and supporting material should be sent in a pdf format via email to Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. The PhD work will be evaluated by a panel of three experts with the external attendance of Prof. Sebastian Diehl (University of Cologne) and Prof. Gianfran- co Buffardi (ISUE President). The award will be assigned during a joint hybrid ceremony with the University of Cologne, next June on the 6th. The awards ceremony will be accompanied by a scientific workshop, in collaboration with the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, open to young researchers.
