SUMMARY:Deadline_Call for Symposia_The International Congress of History of Science and Technology
LOCATION:Dunedin\, New Zealand
DESCRIPTION:The International Congress of History of Science and Technology (29 June -
5 July 2025 in Dunedin, New Zealand)\nGeneral Guidelines for Symposium Orga
nizers:\nA Symposium is an organized thematic panel consisting of several p
apers or presentations addressing a specific topic. The Congress requires t
hat each Symposium be organized by two or more individuals from different c
ountries. We encourage organizers to make every effort to have a diversifie
d line-up, with a balance of gender and geographic backgrounds. Delegates r
egistered for virtual participation will be able to both present and attend
online.\nThe theme of the 27th ICHST is “Peoples, Places, Exchanges, and C
irculation." We invite Symposia submissions on any topic in the history of
science, technology and medicine, but we especially encourage proposals tha
t address aspects of the conference theme, across all periods, and from a v
ariety of methodological and historiographical approaches.\nEach Commission
of the Division of the History of Science and Technology of the Internatio
nal Union of History and Philosophy of Science is expected to organize at l
east one Symposium in its area.\nCommissions are also encouraged to co-orga
nize Symposia with other Commissions, as well as Symposia at which the pres
 enters are Early-Career Researchers.\nProgram Structure:\nEach day of the C
ongress will be divided into four 90-minute session slots. A Symposium can
be held over one or more of these 90-minute slots. Within the structure of
90-minute slots, Symposium organizers are free to propose any arrangement o
f speakers, provided each 90-minute slot includes no more than four papers
or presentations. For instance, one 90-minute session slot could accommodat
e two, three or four regular papers, another slot could be used for discuss
ion, etc.\nWe also encourage organizers to propose roundtables and other in
novative, experimental Symposia formats. Irrespective of the format used, o
rganizers and chairs are expected to reserve enough time for general discus
sion between the presenters and audience.\nIt is extremely important that o
rganizers be absolutely strict with the start and end times of all their se
ssion slots. Also, the order of presentations should not be altered after t
he publication of the final program, even in case of unexpected absences.\n
Submitting Proposals:\nOrganizers of Symposia will need to submit the follo
wing using the form provided:\n\n - Title and an approximately 250-word abs
tract of the Symposium in English.\n - CVs of the organizers (no more than
 one page each).\n - Number of 90-minute session slots requested.\n - DHST C
ommission Name (if applicable)\n - List of expected participants.Organizers
will be contacted later about submitting CVs (no more than one page each)
and abstracts in English (approximately 250 words) from all the participant
s.\nPolicy on Speakers Making Multiple Contributions:\nOne of the key aims
of the Congress is to bring together as many scholars as possible for mutua
l discussion. To include the maximum number of speakers within the constrai
nts of the timetable, we have to stipulate that no individual may present m
ore than one paper at the Congress, as a stand-alone presenter and/or as pa
rt of one or more Symposia.\nIndividuals presenting in one session are, how
ever, permitted to:\n\n - co-organize a different session (provided they do
not contribute a paper to that session too)\n - commentate on a different
session\n - chair a different session (or their own session, if the Symposi
um organizers approve of presenter-chaired sessions)\n - organize or take p
art in non-paper-session activities around the Congress, as agreed with the
Congress organizers. The Congress organizers will do their best to avoid cl
ashes between proposed multiple commitments, but the large number of parall
el sessions at the Congress means this cannot be guaranteed. Please contact
us if you need further information.\nFor more info, see the web site (http
