iv>
PIPoLS (People of the Italian Philosophy of the Life Sciences) is the
first Italian network that brings together scholars in the philosophy of t
he life sciences – broadly construed to include biology, medicine, psychiat
ry, etc. – using methodologies that bridge the gap between empirical and th
eoretical research. The network has already attracted Italian and internati
onal researchers with institutional or intellectual links to Italy, and aim
s to create a space for the advancement of the philosophy of the life scien
ces, with a particular focus on scientific practices, the integration of em
pirical and historical methods, and inter- and trans-disciplinary methodolo
gies. The network invites early-career researchers – PhD candidates and MA
students – to participate in the first workshop and send an abstract to be
presented in one of the following formats: flash talks, posters, or short v
ideos.

The workshop will be held on December 17-18 2026 at Poli
tecnico di Milano, thanks to funding from the International Society
for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (<a hr

the life sciences, as well as mentoring and community-building activities,
the program will provide a platform for those interested in entering the wo
rld of research to present their ideas, projects and questions at the inter
section of the philosophy of science, applied philosophy and related issues
.

Each junior presenter will have a 10-minute slot followed by 5
minutes of structured discussion and feedback. Roughly one month before th
e workshop, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a s
mall group (or one-on-one) mentoring session with a more experienced resear
cher in the field aimed to support them in the development of their wo
