SUMMARY:Eogan 2026 Call for Papers: Renewable energies and archival sustainability
DESCRIPTION:Eogan 2026\nCall for Papers\n\nTheme: Renewable energies and archival susta
inability\n \nWe are pleased to announce a call for papers for the 2026 Con
ference of Eogan, the Network of energy archives (www.eogan.org).\nEOGAN pr
ovides a network for people working to preserve and promote the use of ener
gy- related records across Europe, including:\n\n→ archivists, records mana
gers and records creators in the industry\n→ energy companies wishing to de
velop business archives\n→ archives, museums and organisations with an inte
rest in energy history\n→ universities and academics working on energy-rela
ted topics\nThe annual EOGAN conference is a meeting place for people to sh
are ideas and develop valuable international links across the energy resear
ch and archives sectors.\nThe conference language will be English. The conf
erence will take place on 15-16 June 2026, in blended mode, and it will\nbe
hosted by PPC Historical Archives in Athens, Greece.\n\n2\nPPC Historical
Archives collect, organize and preserve the historical records of the Publi
c Power Corporation, which was established in 1950, marking the beginning o
f Greece’s electrification period. Their rich collections reflect PPC&#
39;s role in the economic, technological and social development of the coun
try. Furthermore, PPC Historical Archives make their invaluable resources a
ccessible for research, providing insights into industrialization and indus
trial heritage, rural modernization, the exploitation of domestic natural r
esources, labour history and the history of technology in Greece. PPC is th
e leading Greek electric utility, with activities in electricity generation
, distribution network operation and supply of electricity to end consumers
, servicing c. 5.6 million customers. Moreover, the PPC Group holds the lar
gest installed renewable energy portfolio in Greece, with clean energy proj
ects across various technologies - including solar farms, wind parks, hydro
electric plants, and a hybrid power station - as well as several smaller pr
ojects throughout the country, both on the mainland and the islands. At the
same time, the Group is innovating in Greece and across the Balkans and So
utheastern Europe, actively developing projects in all forms of renewable e
nergy - including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and biomass/biogas, as we
ll as battery energy storage systems. The theme for the 2026 Conference is
‘Renewable Energies and Archival Sustainability’: as the world moves beyond
the now “traditional” hydrocarbon sources and as renewables become more an
d more established, how do archives trace and narrate these changes? On the
other side, as more and more electricity is needed for documental preserva
tion in the digital era, how do archives face the (new) challenges of susta
inability? We welcome contributions that tackle the interlinked topics of r
enewables and sustainability from any discipline, as long as the methodolog
y involves the usage of archival material (not limited to paper documentati
on but open to all type of sources). Topics can include, without being limi
ted to:\n1. Research\n\n→ History of renewable energies\n→ History of elect
rification\n→ Evolution of the concept of sustainability in history, and ge
opolitical, social, economic effects\n→ The role of electricity production
in environmental history\n→ History of environmental movements and of “clea
n” energies\n→ Past and present patterns of sustainability in energy produc
tion\n→ Methodologies for the analysis of energy history\n\n2. Sources/Meth
odologies\n\n\n→ Presentation of historical archives from renewable energy
companies\n→ How archives can be (environmentally) sustainable in the digit
al age\n→ Energy consumption in archives\n→ Relations between energy archiv
ists/records managers, and political/economic actors\n→ Presentation of his
torical archives and collections on renewable energy, energy transitions, e
nvironmental movements, electricity\n→ Other general archival resources tha
t are useful for energy sector archives\n\nWe invite you to submit papers o
n the topics mentioned above, or any other aspect of our conference theme –
we welcome a wide range of perspectives. Please submit your paper (max 100
00 words excluding notes and bibliography) or an abstract (max 300 words) w
